I'm just now getting into recording and wanted to know which software is better than the others. Right now I have Music Studio 7, only because it was given to me. But I like to start out with very good equipment rather than constanly upgrading. I am also wondering about the importance of sound cards. And which kind I should get. I was looking at a Terratec. Here is the link to the one I was looking at. http://audioen.terratec.net/product.php?pid=7

depending on how many tracks you want to record at once and the quality and features you want, there are lots of souncard choices, tarratec is just scratching the surface of available soundcards designed for recording buffs. check out www.midiman.com or www.echoaudio.com or www.emu.com for some great recording soundcards.

as for software, there is a LOT to choose from and everybody will tell you that theirs is best. so let me start by being the first to tell you that mine is the best!! jsut kdding, i do like sonar www.cakewalk.com though, it's just what im used to. there really is a ton of stuff out there, check out these sites for some good software choices:
www.cakewalk.com
www.mackie.com
also check out, pgmusic, adobe audition, steinberg cubase and maybe even protools.

read my response to cecil. try the demo of powertracks.
and compare to packagers costing ten times as much.
magix audio studio 2005 is now out. you might look at that.
i have version above yours. and i like the audio side, but i like powertracks integration of audio and midi better. rather than having to use midi studio.
