Hey everybody

I'm about to get some software to record my rap over beats and need some help. I'm been looking at pro tools but i just don't see the software by itself it's always with the 002 or the m-box and i just want the software. do they even sell pro tools le by itself, and if they don't what about cubase sx. I'm vey serious about my music and want great sound quality. Also i was wondering what would be a good soundcard. i want to hook up a mic pre to it and my mpc 1000 and keyboard. thanx

i'm just going to post the site of the software i use.
i highly recommend it over anything else.
some people who spend a lot of money on software dont like me mentioning it. as everytime i mention it i get attacked by its competitors which are much more expensive by a wide margin. search under my name for the arch_jedi thread as an example of someone who ended up following my recommendation.
so i'll just post the site and see if you realise the extreme value of it. pgmusic.com.
for sound cards. look at maudio delta series. make sure you have a fast 2ghz plus computer with fast hard drives (preferably 8 mb cache) .
you will also need a mixer or standalone pre's to feed the sound card.
eg, rane ms1b's are good mic preamps.
peace.

You must have the hardware for protools to work. Cubase SX is a good choice. Now are you also looking for a sound card to convert the signals of that gear into digital? How much are you willing to spend on converters? How many channels are you looking to haev hooked up at a time? I know the MPC and some keyboards have multi outs on them.

yo i'm a beginner to the whole computer thing i've done some searching but really don't understand a whole bunch. I want everything i use to stay hooked up and not have to switch things around so i would need alot of imputs right. the mpc has a sequencer and i just want to put the beats on cubase sx edit them if i need to, and then lay vocals on them. but want to use an external mic pre. so what soundcard would let me do this and still have good quality. I'm probally making no sence, but do you somewaht understand.

If you really want to do this a motu 828mkII would be a great starter allowing you to expand as you grow with more gear.
http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/828/body.html/en

It has midi
8 TRS Inputs
8 channel ADAT (so if you get a digital mixer or ADAT w/ adat out you can run it straight in here)
2 Mic Pres that you could use until you can afford a real good one

Their's alot of other cards that will work. I know others here will have their ideas.

A lot of guys that I know that are doing what you are use Sonar. I'm not sure why, but it seems to do a very good job. Cubase SX would be another good choice.
M-Audio makes inexpensive cards that would be good for what you need.
