Hi all,

I am one of those 'read often never post' folk.
Post productio is mostly rock, I do have a couple of aurelex bass traps foam and am willing to invest (little bit) for better acoustics.

Room 1)

- 15 ft square
- ceiling is 8 & 1/3 ft hight
-much mass(furnature on all faces/corners)but no bed/closet
- thick carpet bottom
- SE door outside and medium size window
- SW door to kitchen

Room 2)

- 13 & 1/2 ft long
- 11 ft wide
- ceiling slants up 7 1/3 ft to 8 1/3 ft
- NW door to bath, NE (short) hall to kitchen
- floor 1/3 tile and rest carpet
-one closet, bed, and built in wall cubicle that houses dresser

So far my temp setup is in room 1.
Room 2 is a small apartment.

Just wondering if i can get the same/better sound (acoustics) from the smaller room (apt) as that's where I spend more time.

thx in advance

mike

#2, no contest - square rooms cause serious modal problems (uneven sound levels, lots of which can NOT be fixed with EQ)

If possible, set up (symmetrically) with speakers on the wall with the lowest ceilng, with the ceiling rising to your rear. Make everything as symmetrical left to right that you can, but do NOT put either your head or speakers at positions (except left-to-right) that are even fractions of room dimensions (if your left-right dimension is 11 feet, center your head at 5-1/2 feet but don't put speakers at 11/3 feet, or 11/4, 11/5 - same with both your head and speakers front-to-back - neither should go at any simple fraction of the total length.

Beyond that, if you can get some more foam (thicker the better, but at LEAST 3") first place pieces of foam on both side walls where, if the foam was a mirror, (use one to check) you could see either or both speakers in that mirror.

Next, find a way to deaden the wall behind you - at least, heavy moving pads - better, more foam - on a budget, that's about it.

When I get some time, I could calculate exact positions for your head and speakers - it would help if you could post an actual floor plan of the smaller room, showing doors, windows, which way the ceiling slopes, etc... Steve

When I get some time

Hey Steve, you know they don't give that stuff away:D If you find some, toss me a few hours too. BTW, from the sound of it, you won't have any "free" time for the next 3 yrs. Its like my dad says when I ask if he's free, he'll say, "no, but I'm reasonable".:p

fitZ:)

"they don't give that stuff away" - Hell, I can't even get 'em to SELL me any, and outright THEFT only works once in a while... :=((

Your the man Knightfly.

Right when I was starting to think I wasn't going to get a reply.

Should I go ahead and post here a more detailed schematic or pm you?

How far do you think I should have the 20/20's away from wall A?

I am able to invest in more bass traps/auralex foam upon your recommendations, and have a heavy futon matress as well as other blankets, books(shelf) and such at my disposal. Should I treat the ceiling? Should I leave the closet door open?

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much . . . in advance!!!!!
