Kieth, yeah good news, the N-tracks is a really good beginner multitrack recording program. There are bigger and better ones out there, but not for the buck. And for that matter the bigger the program the greater the learning curve. In addition to having the N-tracks deal you can jump on some decent "wav editor" programs. Gold Wave or Cool edit. Even with the demos of these things you will be able to start getting into the show.

OK, with your help, I'm getting closer. I think I know what I have to do to my computer, which soundcard to buy, and which CD-R to buy (that cd-r FAQ written by mr. Fadden was a huge help there). Now, my question to you- which software would you recommend for someone completely new to the digital world? A little background on me- I play all the instruments (vocals, guitar, Bass, drums), plan do do all the tracks one at a time, and am completely overwhelmed by most of what I read on these BBS. I hear a lot of mention of n-track. Is this good? I plan to buy the Aardvark DirectPro 24/96, which comes with it's own limited software. Would this suffice? Thanks for all your help. I'll be looking out for your responses...

Hey Keith,

I got Samplitude Basic with my Aark 20/20. I wouldn't call it too limited if that's what they are still bundling. I didn't use it much, but it is a damn good multitracker. You can get discounted upgrade pricing to Samplitude 2496 as well. N-Track is absolutely worth checking out though.

if i wanted a better wave editor than cool edit or gold wave, but not to much ($$$$) better. waht would be the next level up (price and quality wise)?

Hey, Keith - if you're starting from zero, why not learn on the software included in the Aark DirectPro? They put it there for a reason. :)

Thanks for your thoughts, guys! Just to show you how stupid I am about all this stuff, I guess my next question is "what's a wave editor?" Im' assuming that this is not included in n-tracks or the freebie software from Aardvark? Dobro- thanks for your response as well. You see, I have no idea what the "freebie" software from Aardvark does or doesn't do. That's what prompted me to ask you all...
