Pentium 3 1.2 ghz, 1.8 ghz, AMD Athlon 2000+, I've heard these are all comparable. I really don't care about price. Which one is best?

Also, I might consider going the Mac Route

p4 1.5-x.x, + good mother board, and you can have a very stable system that boots to windows in like 8 seconds.

The AMD... it's gonna be cheaper than both the P3/4's and out-perform both as well.

I use an XP1900+ on a Soyo Dragon Plus mobo and I run stable as a rock 24 hours a day. I host a web server (WATYF.com), an Unreal game server (6 people are playing on it right now), an FTP server, and I use it to run my DAW.... all at the same time.. and I have no stability problems whatsoever... if that ain't a testament to the stability of AMD's, I don't know what is.

Actually, AMD's cost more for me. I don't know why. A 2100+ costs me 174.96, and a P4 2.0 ghz 171.02, which the 2100+ is supposed to be comparable to. The P3, is 122.88. I like the faster bus speed of the P4, and almost every site I've seen that compares the two, likes the intel better. The athlon runs hotter too? And has a smaller cache and frontside bus.

Yeah... since DDR became available for the P4's and more mobos are available, I don't despise them as much as I did when they first came oat... :p But if I was thinking of upgrading.. I'd wait. The new AMD CPU's and mobos are gonna be comin' oat and all sorts of new tech is gonna happen all at once and blah blah blah. Upgrading right now would be a little premature unless you absolutely had to... but I'm gathering that you have to. In which case... for an equal price (four bucks difference).. I'd still lean to the AMD... (cause I'm biased) :D You're gonna get very similar performance either way.

Yes,.. the Athlons run hotter than the P4's. Completely managable without much effort, but still a little hotter.

AMD, but that's cause I play for Jerry and board of directors every year. I've learned a lot doing so however. Rich as they are they'll risk it all at the drop of a hat. They've got a new chip coming out called 'the hammer' I believe. Looks good. An amazing group of people.

the floating point math that the AMD boasts, makes the 2100 compareable to the 2.1 ghz
