A friend of mine gave me a pretty crappy Squire Strat a few years back and it does me no good so I decided to jazz it up for a project.

I'm a van Halen fag so I'm looking to get a rock "Brown sound" out of it and I don't know which pickup(s) to throw in there. I know I'll never truly get the sound but does anyone know what I should look at for that Eddie like tone?

If you have room for a humbucker

I would go Dimarizio Super Distortion in the bridge position..

I'm guessing it's a 3xsingle coil model.

Eddie uses a humbucker that he helped design. And I don't believe that its available to buy seperately from the guitar.

Heres a URL that I found that may prove useful to you.

Hey Doombot--is that the guitar you were thinking about carving up to make it look like one of those Daisy Rock flower-shaped guitars? I think the best pickups for that guitar would be the Danelectro Superfag 500's. They have a low output, just like your balls.

Nice...

What are you a homophobe.. How about offering some advice, loser...

Uhh...Doombot and I are in the same band, hence the constant flow of good-natured shit back and forth. You see, sometimes when people are in a band and are good friends, they tend to develop what we call a "sense of humor". I tend to not make a habit of just randomly insulting people I don't even know.

Oh, of course...

I should know this why? And in case you haven't noticed there are allot of people that dole out random insults..

And most people don't make these random insults a part of their signature line.

Respectfully (seriously), I'm not interested in arguing about something this trivial.

Back to the pickups, I just checked the Peavey site to see if they sold those ones in your Wolfgang separately (or would even provide specs), and Necrothing is right. Semour Duncan had something interesting listed in their Custom Shop stuff: "The Evenly Voiced Harmonics (EVH) Humbucker" for 160 bucks. Hmmm. No pics or specs though, but I think we can kinda figure what they were trying to build.

Also, just saw on some random website that the first Frankenstein had a Gibson PAF, and the second Frankenstein had a Duncan 59. Sounds like a better option than blowing $160.

Yeah Purge and I are good friends so no harm done.

Thanks, gvarko for gettin' my back though.

Hey Purge, you can't be upset with the guy. He saw someone who is....clearly and asshole, doing asshole things and wanted to put a stop to it. :D

Wouldn't it be easier to call each otheron the phone, or talk at rehearsal?

Yeah, I suppose it would. But see I was looking for other people's opinion and when you see the other guy poking around in here it's hard to resist a little friendly jab. Sorry.

Yeah, good call. Apologies to all, and especially to gvarko for me being a smartass.

The original EVH sound came out of a standard (though old) Gibson PAF. I would try something along those lines.
