I have Guild D17M acoustic that I want to install a pickup in. Any reccomendations as to which pickup I should buy and how much should this cost me?

The Fishman Acoustic Matrix Natural in my Martin blows people away again and again. I even record direct for demos very often and people think its mic'd after a little EQ and reverb on it. I think it just cost me a little over $100 installed, that was about 5 years ago, though.

hi there, i've heard that the mini-flex stage model is pretty good, u can get it in club, stage, or studio versions. food for thought.

I am going to have to make a decision by Saturday so thanks for the help and I hope some more chime in with suggestions.

H2H, I bought the fishman natural now I have to install it. The pickup was 105.00 and they wanted 75 to install it and I figure I am a machinist I ought to be able to install it. So get ready for another sob story concerning ruined guild guitars.

I wish you good luck, matey!

If you haven't had your guitar set up in a while, and they throw that in free, would that not perhaps help "swallow" the $75 for installation? Maybe you can gripe about the economy or something, make them feel like they need to work for the money nowadays... If nothing else, maybe get some dressed frets out of the deal...

It's just a thought. Kinda like having your gifts wrapped at the mall; you'd have your acoustic ready-to-play as soon as you got home!

Baby, Don't Do It!

Would you ask a Luthier to weld bolts together (or whatever it is that machinists do)? Shell out the dough, Bro. Drilling that little hole through the bridge (etc.) is a sensitive operation.

Ive drilled holes .020 in diameter through stainless steel I dont think this will present a real problem.

Kryptonite is brittle and not very strong, sorta like hard clay. I dont like having it around cause sometimes when I get real stoned and get the munchies I mistake it for cheese and eat some. Especially after smoking some crackpot.

See, the LUTHIER would have the pickup IN THE GUITAR BY NOW.

:D

I am waiting to get with my carpenter drummer who has all the right tools.
Not only would the luthier have the guitar done he would also have around 100.00 dollars of mine in his pocket.

Thanks alot Kelly, no one else will screw with me. If anyone calls me a freak cause the only screwing I am getting is from a bat eared cigarette smoking cat;
all I can say to them is, Hey I'm finally getting something.

I have the pickup installed. I have to buy a new saddle because mine is bone and that is not recommended for the pickup. Should be plastic, they give you the names. I have to shave it down to size. Also have to remove the nut and stick about a .007, .010 shim under it and put it back to raise the strings a tad at the top to stop the buzz (Refer to: My guild has a buzz on thread)
Should be ready to go by christmas, yay. Will buy new hold down pegs, they are pretty worn after 25 years.
All and all I recomend one installs ones own pickups if they have any confidence in their abilites at all.
There was no routing involved, if there was I might have had second thoughts about it.

hehe, I hear ya!

Cool. Let us know how it sounds when you're done!

Hey, with the routing thing? You oughtta put an F hole in the top of your Guild. You know, for F-ing.

:D

The pickup is now fully installed and operational. It sounds very good.

Does anyone know if the Acoustic Matrix sounds good in a 12 string guitar? It's a Yamaha FG312 Type II, string distance is approx 59mm

I have also seen there is an Acoustic Matrix NT 1 and 2, 2 was ment for dreadnoughts, which one should I get? Any thoughts? I can't get any LR Baggs pickups here in the netherlands, these are some of the few options I have.

Regards,
Stan.

Talk about an old thread!! Man, Kelly Holdridge...those were the days! And Dragonworks posts didn't reak of sarcasm;)

I *think you can use those in a 12 string guitar. The difference between the I and II is that the I has a higher output I think. It's been a long time and I have moved on to all things Taylor since back then!:) So I'm sure someone will call me out if I'm wrong.

They make several styles, one of them for sure will fit a 12 string. They have a wide, narrow, and split pickup.
