These are crazy times at Fender.
I was recently at Fullerton and the new museum. A great story, humble man.
All the inner original circle have stories to tell in the small museum via the normal pieces paper, dvd, pictures. His little old shop was still there on main street, empty, up for lease from the last renter.

Fast forward to these times.

Which one would you buy? just curious.

The Fender US MADE CUSTOM "RELIC" for $10,499.99
or
The Squire Telecaster, now with solid Alder body/Maple neck for $169

I think I like the $169 one better. I haven't got the used look down yet?

I'll keep my American Standard...but I played the Squire Tele recently and it was pretty damn nice!! The $1,000 ones were nice too.

They didn't have the Jeff Beck "RELIC" Strat for $10,499.99...wow?

i like my Squire Telecaster 'Custom' (i don't know what makes it 'custom'. i know i didn't choose anything for it :P). it cost me £180, it stays in tune, is fairly versatile with the range of sounds from the pick up selection, sounds good enough distorted or clean. if i could afford a proper Fender, then i'd jump at one, and i can be fairly sure it'd be a better guitar. but for me, a fairly-good-squire will keep me playing :)

Andy.

How long have you had it?
And have you had to repair anything?
Anything abnormal?

I just don't know if these new Squires are as good as my previous experience with Squiers (that was very good actually....$10+ years).
And it was my fault the thing dropped and messed up the frets.

These new "Tele's" play really nice and the wood isn't some laminate...it says SOLID ALDER!!! and I prefer Maple necks...hmm, sounds too good?
I've got a Strat but thought the Tele might be a fun beater guitar, something to take to jams.

I noticed like 3 sites reviews have the $169 with high praise and the $10,499.99 Relic at 4 of 10....I guess expectations would be high for $10,499.99?

Never did understand why anyone would pay for a guitar that looks old. that means they are not willing to play it themselves to get that vintage look. Some think it makes them look experienced, I guess. There is no substitute for experience. You can't "Buy" that.

My Dad owns a '72 Telecaster, American handmade, nicest guitar I've ever played.
I use a 1996 Squire Strat (really good quality for a squire though) and it's beautiful.

Relic guitars suck, get a new Fender Telecaster or buy vintage....

Another question: why wouldn't Fender offer that sweet Butterscotch finish on American Standards, MIM Standards, Lite Ash, etc. You can get the Butterscotch on '52 RI, American Ash Deluxe, and a couple bottom-feeder Squires. Weird.

Even if Ihad the money, I'd buy the Squier.
There's nothing like breaking in a brand new guitar, every little mark, scratch,
dent and ding is all part of giving your instrument its own personality.

$10,000?? And I thought Gibsons were insanely overpriced.

You aint kidding!
Even Flying V's are in the region of £4000, and they're horrible.
