As usual, Greg was close. :D

I'd say it's 3, 2, 1.

3 has the best combo of midrange bite and in your face presence. 2 has some good midrange, but not quite as in your face. 1 is just a bit scooped.

(Disclaimer: my comments assume we're talking about the guitars. If we're talking about the ambient decay times of the china boy--then forget what I just said.)

The only hint I'm giving is the speaker cabinet is the same for all samples, so is the mic placement.

This experiment proves nothing and will end up being just an amusing experiment but I'll shell the details on what each is once we get a few more votes.

There is way too much bass which caused immediate ear fatigue. If you want us to vote on just the guitars then post samples of one guitar part by itself from each mix. From what little I could hear all 3 sounded like the same simulator with different EQ settings.

Yeah I'm working with a pre recorded backing track that had the bass already mixed with the drums. I downloaded it more as a way to get clean tracked DI guitars without having to record them myself. There is a hpf at 80hz on each guitar, this is the only post processing done on each guitar track.

Anyhow, I can't see this thread going much further so without much ado here is what you are all hearing:

Sample 1: A real 5150 recorded just the preamp and then run through the cab sim (same settings for all samples)
Sample 2: 5150 model in Amplitube 3, setting the knobs the exact same way they were on the above amp (except wasn't sure what to do with the bottom setting so I dialed it completely out)
Sample 3: Line 6 podfarm 2 5150 model, again with the same settings as the real amp. This model had a lot more gain than the real thing dialed in the same way.

Like I said, proves nothing. It was more or less I wanted to see if amp sims dialed in like the real thing, and the answer is no not even close. haha
There was probably some gain structure things going on so this isn't even really a test more so just 3 different guitar tones.

I didn't want the speaker cabinet or the mic positioning to be a factor hence using impulses for all three samples.

I don't own guitar rig or revalver, otherwise I would have included that as well.

Pretty surprised that the pod tone won out here though. I may try to match sample 1 a little better in the future to see if I can get an amp sim to match the real thing more realistically but I'm kind of in doubt with that.
