Hi all... i need a little bit of a help... i m taking on 2 courses for music...

one is Recording Engineer and the other one is Mastering Engineer

i just wanna ask wich one is more valuable then other... or which one is more useful in a everyday live inside a studio...

answers are welcome... :d anykind

regards all :D

Recording/mixing... if this is done right, mastering is a very, very small part of the process... Many people use the analogy "the icing on the cake" to describe the mastering process... I typically refer to the recording and mixing processes as the ingredients to make the cake. If you have shit ingredients you're going to have a shit cake.

Do you want to record musicians? Or do you want to master final mixes?

If you don't know what mastering is, I'd suggest doing some research on the subject.

As for which one is more useful in an everday studio? Depends on the studio.

Recording studio - Recording engineer
Mastering studio - Mastering engineer

Well are these just one semester courses? If so they are only going to be an introductory level or very slim lined classes.
But you should be able to tell which line best suites you or which one you like over the other. Then you can pursue more in of a career on the one you choose.
Booth engineering jobs are out there and again like in any field competition is fierce. But once you find what your calling is just do it and don't look back.

they are 2 diff simesters... starting from recording techniques to recording enginier and then comes the mastering... with those i want to do music making (beat making)

so i like ALL INE ONE :D

Well jump right in and take the courses then decide for your self.
It's gonna be a lot of fun, wish I was there man when I was your age.

Both. Neither one is "more important" than the other, they are part of a continuum.
To some extent - But the previous phase is almost always more important than the following phase.

If the song sucks, the project is dead. If the tracking guy sucks, the mixing engineer is toast. If the mixing guy sucks, the mastering guy is lost.

That said - I was a tracking/mixing guy for around 15 years before I even dreamed of getting into mastering (actually I was dragged, kicking and screaming into mastering - but that's for another thread).

I would very highly recommend the recording/mixing course. See if there's a critical listening course (which would come in handy before doing anything).

Personally I wouldn't advise getting into recording with a view to making it a profession. I studied for 4 years and it was a complete waste in respect of getting paid work.

I honestly think the professional industry is dying a slow death and there aren't enough jobs.

If it's something just to do as part of another course then I would go for recording engineer. You can always specialise if you've got the ears for Mastering as the techniques are based in the same theory really imo anyway

The big studio jobs are much fewer these days. The business is far more independent and entrepreneurial than before. Not for the faint of heart.
