Which noise gate to go with FMR RNC?

I plan on getting the RNC and I want a hardware noise gate to go with it. I prefer a gate that has controls for threshold, ratio, attack and decay if possible. Any suggestions?

Aphex 622 or Drawmer DS201. The Aphex will likely be cheaper.
I don't know what a good noise gate costs but I wasn't expecting it to be $700.

Yes, new gates are pricey - and that's street price. On e-bay Aphex 622 gates will typically go from $250 - 350 and Drawmer DS-201s from $300-450 (one Drawmer went for @$150 recently and several for around $300). I have an Aphex that I picked up on e-bay for $250. Nice gate. The Drawmer is generally considered the industry standard as it has been around for a long time and works well. If you don't want to deal with e-bay, here's a used Drawmer DS-201 from a vendor for $375:

Aphex does make less expensive gates, but I haven't used them so I can't offer a comment. The Aphex 105 quad gate appears to go for @$60-150 on e-bay.

There's also the Aphex 612, the precursor to the 622. Some like the 612 better.

A less expensive gate is the DBX 363, but that doesn't ahve all the controls you want. I do like DBX gates though, they sound musical to me.

That must be a discontinued item. I can't even find it on ebay.

it is. thankfully, adam is going to sell me his for 25 bucks so i can have two. thanks adam! you're the man!

i used the 4 channel behinger thing with my rnc's for toms all year. no troubles.

the dbx does have more control but it's got the balanced XLR things which means ya gotta build the cables...

That's true, the 612 is a good option. Should be cheaper than the 622, although I haven't priced them lately. I really do like the Aphex gates though.

I'm starting to think I may have to go with a dbx 166xl to get both a compressor and noise gate in my budget. I can live without attack control on the noise gate but I'm not sure if I'd be happy without ratio control.

Mwah ha ha. Can you believe I found that at Guitar Center of all places?

Maybe I'll bring it over if/when you get a new place up and running.
