which monitors?

I wanted to upgrade my monitors for under $400 bucks.

I was looking at several models.....

KRK rokit6 active

KRK rokit8 active ( blem from musicians friend $199 a piece )

m-audio BX5-a

or

M-audio BX8 off of ebay

which do you think would be best for me??

I play mostly acoustic rock, progressive rock, and hard rock.

Dave matthews, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Staind style of music. Need something with clarity, ESPECIALLY for acoustic mixes.
 
Those KRK Rokit8's @ $199/ea sound good.

And they sound GOOD too.

buying locally can save you a lot of headache. a friend just got trapped for $40 shipping something back. there's so much mass produced crap with rattling connectors and leds that don't work or crackling volume pots. Wouldn't you feel better test driving the pair you were possibly purchasing personally. Buyer beware of rip offs....

How about you tell the store to come down on price per paying as much as you'd pay probably in purchasing products with possible purchase taxes saved by purchasing the product on the internet with paypal? WOuld this work? I don't know either. :confused:

of course I didn't do this... I ordered some Yorkville YSM1P online from Gear1 (active..P for Powered) whom I'd never heard of, but they were cheaper by $10. I got lucky I guess. but the hassle and risk isn't worth saving $10, in hindsight.

even these posts aren't much help, sound is too subjective to your ears and your room. only workmanship-problems reported and price is helpful, imo.

An added preferred positive posting is partially the pro's posting product purchases performances, physical product posts, and purchased product price posts from a professional perspective of past products purchased.
 
yeah, I have been kinda fighting with myself on that one CC. I have heard the war stories of monitors sucking. I have pretty much heard atleast 1 person on here complain about pretty much EVERY monitor under 500 bucks because they happened to get a faulty one.

Then again....that ebay sure does reel in the cheapskate sucker in me.

I wish that guitar center had a better selection. Thats really one of the few places around here to get halfway decent monitors. ( atleast that I know of. )

I will probably go with KRK rp5 or rp6 if I buy from GC. Unless I can find a way to haggle them down.

Drop a half-stack on my foot and threaten to file suit? haha :D

Has anyone actually HEARD the Behringer Truths ?? The ones with the 8 inch subs in them? any opinions on flatness?
I really wanted to get something with an 8inch in it but may just buy the rp5s and then spend 2 hundred on OC703 and supplies for the room. Thanks guys.

just got off the MF live chat.

they said the buyer has to pay for the return shipping on these.($15-20 on the EMUPM5)

roll them dice?

MF also verified its not a typo. $99 each, free shipping in the 48 states.

Guitar Center has them too, or whatever's left, the sales guy said the PM5 are on clearance and won't be sold by them anymore which is why the price is at cost. Dallas area is sold out already. Order only.
