Now you can get away with using a Mackie 1604 if you don't plan to use more than 8 mic's at a time. You will need to get a patch bay so that you can access the remaining 8 in's to your recorder.

You can get an Alesis Studio 32 which has balanced direct outs on all 16 channels.

No. we just had a huge discussion regarding that question just recently; somewhere in one of these forums.

Sorry for all those repeats, but bugs are all over the place lately. When I tried to submit my reply, a Windows icon appeared saying "Document Contains No Data".

Sorry, R.E...I was hacking the new server just about then...

By the way, to answer the question about the Studio 32--it comes in at about $899 from Musician's Friend and American Music Supply. Palm Beach Music or Zzounds might have it for $799, I haven't checked either recently. Both prices are cheaper than the Mackie (@ $999). And the Alesis specs are looking good. Have to say, though, Mackie's are built like tanks and still have GREAT sonic qualities. The Alesis--I honestly and simply don't know. They might be awesome, too. And they are built for recording.

Peace, Jim

If you go with the Alesis Studio32 you really need some good mic preamps because the built-in pres are pretty noisy. That might make the Mackie a better value in the long run, dunno.
