what mixer has the best pres? I am looking to buy a mixer, and just want to know the best line of mixers for pres.

please dont recomend a seperate pre!
 
I'm partial to SSL... :D

However, I'm assuming that you're looking for something a little lighter on the wallet...

There are a lot of choices - Can you specify your budget on this?

API's Legacy Console is pretty nice too!
But it doesn't come with a shower or stove, so, you know, you can't live in it. I don't think you can finance it for 30 years either. :p :D

A budget would be nice to know. ;)

I'll second that API and add Tridents have some pretty nice desks as well.

Is there a budget? Seriously without knowing what kinda of money your looking to spend it hard to recommend anything without being sarcastic.

Need a budget

It's all about "best" for the money... how much money are we talking about?
 
Also, how many channels?

Along the lines of Treeline's comment, there is always better and always cheaper.

Sounds like the makings of a used Wackie,,, err, I mean Mackie, to me.
 
Ain't gonna happen...

Yer not in "best" territory - you'll have to triple it to even approach it. You could go ten times that amount without breaking a sweat. So you're talking about "what's the best I can do for the budget?" Different question.

BUT:

For five hundred bucks, you can do pretty well with the new Yamaha MX line. Nice boxes and they deliver nicely for the money.

If you have a mixer - Mackie or equivalent - and you want a little more headroom, try picking up (3) M-Audio DMP3 outboard preamps. That'll give you six channels of very nice for the money preamps that will give an old mixer a new attitude. About $450.
