hey all,

i want a lil rack type mixer to plug in my cassette deck, sound card,eq in to---all on different chanels. each one having it's own fader.(well maybe not the eq)

i also want to be able to record my vocals/guitar through it into my n-track software on my computer.

at mars music they have four that will probably work. but which brand? the Behringer or the Phonics?

and will the six channel be good enough for my needs?

thanks

Ummm... getcha 2 of the rackmounted ART Tube MP's. You'd be better off. 4 channels with DI and meters.
If you're gonna go Behringer, get 2 Ultragains, $189 each. Avoid those boards like a disease. See my most recent thread in Newbies and maybe disregard everything you and I both mentioned. Your call.

yeah...those tube MP's and Behringers are in a different league from each other.......NOT!!!!!

at that price break, get what suits your needs best, and forget about brand names, and all the rig-a-mo-roll that accompanies discussion of equipment in this price catagory. A little Samson mixer, Phonic, Behringer...whatever will suit your needs just fine, until you learn what you really want down the line. At that point in time, if you been doing your homework, your little mixer *sketch pad* will have all the silkscreening worn off of it....and it will have traveled many, many miles with you. When you get your new mixer (if you'll actually need such a thing in the not too distant future), you'll be hard pressed to get rid of your *security blanket* but you'll rather keep it for your home stereo, keyboard mixer, drum submixer, headphone aux mixer....or a gift to your kid (if you're an old fart like some around here!!)

good luck!

thanks all for the imput.

yea i'm an old fart.i'm an ex-4-tracker from the 80's. small studio set up then. i've cut singles and an album in 24 track studios back to the mid 70's.

i'm a geek wanna be now and want a small(larger if i had the money) mixer to hook everthing into and record on my harddrive. so when i get inspired i can push a few button and viola,in biz.

it looks like i'm leaning towards the behringer for the money. the samson looked good to.

yeah...just remember, you're just gonna spend a couple hundred bucks max, probably, so you're not getting a sophisticated mixer, by any means. Also, some people just rave at the little Mackies...like the 1202....because of their new preamps, and the rest. I would wager they are a tad better, and the price probably reflects that as well....just a tad more (right..?.a couple dinners on the town, difference??!). Plus, the resell, should it be in the NEAR future, will be by far the best on the Mackie.

I think you can easily outgrow 6 channels quickly, as asked in your first post...but if you are sure that is all you need...then by all means....that gives you 3 stereo pairs, basically....enough???

OK... guys - I was NOT serious about the Behringer... I probably should have put a ( ;) )
there....

If you're going the small-mixer-on-a-budget route - skip Phonic and Behringer -- look at the Soundcraft stuff... will be MUCH better......

i've always wanted a mackie but----$----i'll let ya know what i find.

thanx

the roland studio pack may be a good answer too. Its affordable and a good Improvement over the berringer that Bruce swears by. While you are there Maybe you should look at some of the monitor packages as well.

The sick thing is I have mattel syndrums. 2.00 at a garage sale.

Now Im using a roland spd-8 20.00 at a pawn shop. vast improvement.

ok u mattel experts,if i wanted to play my own drum parts(create anyway) would a drum pad be best? i'm not a drummer and cannot program drum machines but i got rhythm. rhythm accoustic guitar is my thing. what would u suggest? drum parts hold me back the most in recording.

ps: can't find many drummers or programmers available.

thanx

If you can't program drums and have difficulty with drum machines, you could try the sampling route - lots of looped drum parts (samples of REAL LIVE drummers) available on CD-ROMs for use in Samplers and computer sampling s/w.......

Obviously not as cost-effective as a drum machine, but if you need drums, can't work drum machines, and have no drummer available, then that's about the only other option!
