which mixer do i need?

I need a mixer to record my band during rehearsals. I have these equipment at the moment:

tascam 788
edirol ma5a monitors
line 6 pod II
shure 10am mic
audiobuddy preamp

I looked at some behringer mixers and I saw that 12 input mixers only have 4 mono inputs so if I want to record 12 mono tracks, how should I do it? I'm looking for something affordable but gets the job done. any suggestions?

First off, forget Behringer. Some of their stuff is okay, but the mixers are pure shit in my opinion. They're worth the price when they work, but I've had 2 die on me personally and have heard numerous other horror stories. And forget trying to get it serviced under warranty.
Go with a Yamaha MG series instead. They are comparably priced and are more dependable. The preamps are decent as well.

That said, how do you plan on recording the band? i.e. are you going to use multiple mics on each of the drums or just a couple of overheads. Mic the guitar/bass cabs or go direct.
Depending on how many inputs you're looking for, this will probably serve you well.

Another vote for the Yamaha MG mixers. Very usable pres and a lot better than Behringer.
 
Yep, put me down on the Yamaha MG side as well. I think half of my posts are about those mixers.
 
thanks for your replies. I'm not yet familiar with recording drums but with the style of music that I record which is classical and jazz i might need up to 12 inputs. I was looking at the yamaha mg124 but I noticed that I only get 4 mono tracks and 4 stereo tracks with 2 of the stereo tracks which can be used with mono capability. So that adds up to 6 if i only want to record mono plus the 4 inputs on my tascam, I only get ten inputs. Correct me if i'm wrong on this. I also looked at the mackie dfx12 and i saw that all of its stereo tracks can be used as mono so I get 8 mono inputs altogether. does this mean that the mackie is better in terms of the number of inputs? also what do you think of the peavey pv10?

Yamaha MG series will serve you better then Behringer. Mg's are by far the best small rack mountable mixers for the price. I have 16/6 FX but I if you don't need FX section you 'll be just fine with MG 16/4 or 12/4, both feature identical pres.

I just bought the 16/6 FX for Xmas. Great mixer for the money.
