Not if you're just using it for some cheap pre's and signal routing to get into your computer. It doesn't sound like you're actualling going to be using the mixer for mixing. A digital mixer would probably be overkill.

I'm not going to recommend an MPC over the Triton - especially since you will be dropping alot of cash to pick either of these up. I've never used a Triton so I don't know how they are different - I'm just trying to open up your horizons - so you can explore for yourself.

I think alot of new hip-hop is using Triton's or sound modules and synthesizers, but MPC is still used alot.

Your best bet is to go to a music store and try both of them out and see which style of making beats you like - keyboard, or sampler. Do the same thing with mics and mixers and find out if they are good for you, and if so, what you want.

Also, if you just get a cheap keyboard now (oxygen 8 is pretty cheap), and a MIDI connection you could use Fruity Loops (or any other program) alot more effectively... alot less mouse clicking, and more intuitive music making.

You could just get an Aardvark 24/96 and forget the whole idea of a mixer. It will accept your keyboard and all that plus midi. It has preamps as good as a Mackie, phantom power, and will let you record 4 inputs at a time. If you need more inputs later you can always buy another on or a Q10, which has 8 inputs. This will get the Mixer and Soundcard out of the way in one shot.
