You mentioned vocals earlier. For vocals a mic that is perfect for one person won't necessarily work well for another. What mic's have you used?

You didn't answer my last question, so you probably won't answer this one, but I'll ask it anyway.


What exactly do you mean by "rustling"?

1. microphone self-noise is very high (audible hiss from the electronics)
2. microphone picks up background sounds in the room
3. microphone produces rumble or hiss in response to air movement (fan, air conditioning)
4. mic isn't on a stand - makes noise when you move it around in your hands
5. ?

It has very low self-noise. Many mic's do. There are a number of attributes that make a mic sound good (or not) on a particular source. Learn to read mic spec sheets for info on self-noise, but spec sheets won't tell you how a mic will actually sound on a given source. Nor will frequency charts. You can only tell that by hearing a mic in use yourself.

That's not what you first asked. I doubt that you will find a single Hollywood studio that features an NT2-a as their main or (even secondary) vocal mic.
