I need a new microphone.
It should be very good.
Which mics do the professional Hollywood-Records-Studios take?
The mic should not rustle and make any noise..
I`m interested in the AKG C414 B-XL2 .
I want to pay up to 700€....

Ok, I am new here (yeah really!) why AKG and this mic? Most of these are used/sold in Stereo pairs, what are you going to record, groups, events. 1 person or lay down individual tracks? Yep it is multi pattern with "cute" led's BUt there are some good Neumann BCM 104's and afor a bit more the Sennheiser MKH800 series that is "all-over the AKG for the "what" of what it does.
Hm, just a thought!
I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe

You are brave to pose that question without the details friend.. If you read some of the threads in here and the "sticky" thread at the top you would know what I mean.. you'd better either provide the specific details quickly.. or duck...

what kind of recording? Vocal? Instruments? Both? / What kind of vocal range / type / sound... What sound are you going for.. Other equipment you'll be using with the mic..etc..

If you want the pros to answer you , you'd better do your homework before asking.

One thing I can offer my measley two cents about though.. a lot of commercial studios if not most of them consider the neumann U87 to be king.. always up for debate of course..

We more than ever need some kind of money exchanging site to be linked to this forum...so we can give advice without shooting for something out of the price range.

I want to have a real good microphone, which are used in Hollywood Studios...
I want to record Voice and Flute.

Pretty much the standard vocal mic for most Hollywood studios would be a Neumann U87. You might find one used for around 1000€ or less.

There are some very good mics for a lot less (which are discussed here), but if you want a "standard Hollywood studio mic" for vocals, the U87 is about as close as you're gonna find at your price point.

is there also a cheaper alternative?

Hell yes, there are dozens of fine mics within your price range- but should ask is your use and/or skill level one where 'only the finest will do or is required?

You should make his commitment the factor here...you can learn just as well with the best as you can with a bottom feeder mic...its learning using the bottom feeders that will make things more expensive than they have to be.

I reccomend mid level mics like the KSM32 or C214...those can stay in your cabinet when C12 occupies it...and they set you back only $500-600

The C414 is a nice mic. But there's so many flavors of it, I'd be weary of one myself. It has a bit of a boxy look IMO. And at last check waves aren't always square. At least not in nature.

Vocals and studios, well, SM58, SM57, I imagine everyone has those. Are they first call mics in all circumstances, probably not. Neuman U47 and U87 are common sought afters. I haven't used any of those myself. But I'm not a vocalist. I like ribbons myself, but I tend to favor environments that don't favor those mics.

If you want to be like a credentialed studio, check out their gear list. Most seem to list their gear very openly. Whether that's gear they like / use I don't know. But it's probably meets some criteria of gear than can be rented / sold / desired by others.

The C214 is a cardiod only version of the C414...only half the price.

I think the Client list and thier word of mouth is more important than an equipment list...one of the girls I was recording took off and I get plenty of buisness from those that know I was the guy who recorded her first.

I discovered her singing in a coffieshop...offered to record her for free...made her a deal for a dollar for each copy sold.

You should do this too.

but the SM58 is not a real "studiomic" .
I need a real big one.
I don`t care the look and so on, but the quality should be good.
I want to use it for some years....=)

I want to connect it to my USB-Audio-Interface, and then to my mac...

Of course it is. You just don't know it because they only show condenser mics in MTV videos. :)

There are literally hundreds of options here. The C414 would be a great choice, and I like Darrin's idea on the 214 as long as you don't need the multipattern stuff...and you probably don't. If I were you I'd spent a little less on the mic (hence the C214) and save some for a good preamp too...or at least something decent. You never told us what interface you're using, so I have no way of knowing whether the preamps are any good or not...

ok.
but then which preamp/interface should i use?
I want to connect to my mac

yeah I had one but then i sold it because I thought:
When I buy a good mic I have to have a good preamp !

The line6ux2 interface is a great deal as a preamp and interface...it will give you that preamp sound that people here spend thousands for.

Go for a U87 as a budget mic and work your way up.

700Pounds buys an awfully cheap mic in Hollywood professional studios but the good mics don't rustle. If they didn't make any noise would they be broken mics, no?
