First of all, hi everybody from homerecording.com! I'll soon buy a ''low-budjet'' microphone for my home studio, and I need your tips! I've got to have a mic to record voices (Hip-Hop/Rap)... I thought about two : the Behringer B2-Pro or the Rode NT1. Which one would be the best to record voices? There is better microphones, in that kind of price for voices?

Thanks everyone !

I'll just jump in here first - there are a lot of vocal mics out there, and the B2 pro and NT1 are not that well thought of. I have an NT1, and while I don't record hip-hop, it's not that great a mic and there are lots better for less $ now. These include:
Studio Projects B1, C1
Marshall Electronics MXL v67
and loads of others (check out the faq site for more info on these and other choices)

Also, don't neglect dynamic mics - an SM57 is a great place to start.

And try them out! Whatever sounds best is likely to be best for your vocals.

Budget choice - probably an sm57 and a v67 - around $180

Out of those two mic's I'd get one of the older NT1's... and I think SteveMcB did a pretty good job at commenting on some of the other mic options in your price range...

I have a B2 not the "Pro" and if its similar..Its a brite mic{as is the Rode}..Look at something eles for vocals IMHO..Good luck

Steve,

Do you have the NT1 or the newer NT1a? I ask because I'm very intrigued by the NT1a... Phenomenally quite (I've read). Does the NT1a fix some of the harshness/too bright problems on the NT1?

So now the deal isn't between two mics, but... Four! I would need your opinions about these, to make an intelligent choice (in vocal) :
-The Rode NT1 (Or NT1a)
-The Audio-Technica AT3035
-The Studio Projects C1 (I think that it's more expensive tho)
-The Behringer B2-Pro

Which one would you choose for ''Hip-Hop'' voices? Does anyone know about the Canadien price of the SP C1 (can't find a right price in canadien dollars)? Thanks for your help! ;)

Most likey none of the above would be my first choice... but, if I only had those 4 mic's to pick from I'd try them all and pick the one that fit the singers voice and the project the best. But I wouldn't buy any mic without trying it out first to make sure I liked it if I was you... unless you have extra money to throw away.

I just saw a pair of those AT 3035's used at Guitar Mart fo 149.00 apeice.

I can't really try them all, now... Well, I'm going to soon but I don't have any good music stores near, so I want to make a choice first. Then, I'll test them!

Ok, then I'd say the 797 Audio/Studio Projects C1.

If you are trying mics out ...Check out the AT4040 or At 4033

All those mics are giving me an headache... :)
In Studio Projects, there's also the B3 in these kind of price. I hate decisions and choices.

The Marshall MXLV67G is also in your price range... and so is the Shure SM57.

Well, out of the list of mic's that he posted... the 797 Audio/Studio Projects C1 is the one I'd take. I still think he would be better off saving his money until he can afford a nicer mic... but, out of that list, I'd take the C1.
