Alright, Right now I have no good vocal mics (Best one would be SM57 or Audix f5). I'm about to get a firepod, and these are my options for a FREE vocal mic with it. What mic would suit me the best for vocals (sometimes screaming) ROCK music.

Here are my options.

1 MXL V67G Studio Mic

MXL 770 Mic w/shock mount

MXL Desk Top Recording Mic Kit DRK

Audio Technica AT-2020 Mic

Here is the auction link if anyone else is interested!

Don't own any of the others, but do own a V67g. It's a pretty decent budget microphone that doesn't have an exagerated high-end and it looks pretty too :D

I've noticed that my vox tracks recorded with this mic tend to get lost in a mix pretty easily. I've tried it in front of a '65 Fender Super Reverb and was pretty happy with the results. I really haven't spent a massive amount of time with it - just recording test tracks thus far. I'd consider the AT2020 as well. I haven't used it, but do a quick search around here for posts on opinions of it.

if you wanted the AT2020, get the v67g, sell it for $200-250 and get two AT2020s :D :D

You can get the V67G over here in the UK for £59 which is a little over $100.

I'd say the AT2020 is more versatile (neutral).

If you want a darker coloured mic then go with the V67G.

I'm assuming you were joking, but in reality...

v67g's sell for about $100 new, and go for about $50-85 used on eBay.

So if I were going to use this mic to record rock vocals....would I be better off with the

2020 or V67G

I haven't used to the AT2020, but I don't suspect the v67g would cut through a rock mix (based on my experience I posted above).

hmm, not sure how I got it into my mind that the v67g was $300...
I stand corrected

Yeah - good call. Given the list of mics you can choose from, I'd go with the AT-2020.

Out of all those choices I'd go with the Presonus EQ3b - keep using the 57 through the EQ and save for a better mic than any offered. Like the 4040, NTK, M179, C1 or another dozen which are a step up or two from the ones listed. I've used all those I've mentioned along with a couple on the list and I would save up for something better if I were you.

You might be thinking of the v69 tube mic?

I haven't used it either, but I got one on the way, the AT2020, that is, from Zzounds, with the firepod, and comes with a rebate for a decent headphone amp (which I needed). I thought that was a better deal than any of the ebay listings I saw (free shipping too). I read a lot of reviews on that mic, though, and saw very little negative about it, except (if I'm remembering correctly) that it gets a little brittle and shimmery in the high end for some applications. But I tend to like that, anyway....
