Which Mic? V76t, V69 OR AT4040?

I know, another one of "those" threads. But I'm stumped. I'm looking to spend $200-$300 on a new LDC. Obviously, budget is problem number one. All I have currently is an MXL V67G and it is too sibilant with my voice. My singing voice tends to be sort of raspy.

I'm wanting something warmer and smoother on the top end with less sizzle. It will also be used for the singer of my band, who is more of a shrill screamer. That being said, which one of the below would suit me best?

MXL V69M

MXL V76t (I know this is sort of the new V77, but with a different capsule)

AT4040 (I know these tend to be more honest, so not sure that they will do so well with the kind of vocals I need to track)

I heard some samples of the V69 and V77 on a mic shootout web site posted in another thread here, and what little difference I could tell, I liked the V77 better. It seemed a little less exaggerated on the highs. Just wondering how close the V76t will be to that sound.

Any other models I should be looking at in this price range?

Thanks in advance,

I think AT4040 the AT4040 much more than the other two.

However, you're saying you want something without sizzle for a raspy voice. The AT4040 has a bit of a bump in the highs but it's not overly bright. It's sort of falls between a neutral mic and a bright mic.

I'd suggest looking at a Shure SM7b.

Yeah, I think that was the only thing that made me nervous about the idea of the 4040 -- I just want to make sure I get something that will give me enough of a different sound and character from the V67. From what it sounds like though, the 4040 will be a much better all around mic and more versatile than the other options.

Thanks for all the info!

Alright, while I'm helping you all rehash the "which mic to buy for under $xxx.00" stuff, how would a Rode NTK or NT2 compare to the other mics I'm looking at?

Even brighter yet. But overall, pretty similar. Same idea.
