Hi, I got :
Sm57
AKG d112
ATM25 (not pro)
Sennheiser md421
MXL 603s (pair)
Oktava mc012 (pair)
Studio project B1
Audio technica 3035
Behringer XM8500 (just for live trashy stuff)

What should I sell or upgrade? I was thinking of selling the MXL 603s or selling the AT3035 or the b1... what u guys think?

Thx a lot

Oh yeah, I record mainly rock, metal, classical (choir, orchestra, piano, etc).

I would keep the B1 for sure. Like the guy said sell the one you use the least.

I use almost all of my mics all the time, except for the 3035 and b1 which I only use when I am recording guitar and vocals. I record a lot of live stuff so I don't like to but a 3035 or b1 for vocals.

What would you suggest to upgrade the 3035???

3036? or 3037 maybe......
seriously, nobody here knows, in my studio I would get a 4033, but that's me

Hmm, well I guess it depends on the reason why you feel the need to do this?

Well I would like to get a good mic indeed (LD) as gidge said, but I don't wanna sell the ATM25 because it's my fav on floor tom. I also like the 3035 on electric guitar, but I would like to know if more expensive LD could be as good as the 3035 on electric, or will they be a lot less coloured.

I know my question is hard to answer (impossible would be the perfect word) but I am just seeking suggestions. Also, I record orchestra's and choirs, I would like to know if it's a better bet to keep the 603 with the mc012 so that I can stereo mic the choir and stereo mic the piano or would I be better served by selling the 603 and using a very nice ld mic for micing the choir, orchestra, etc with a pair of mc012. (Sorry for the confusion!!)

yep, thats why its so hard for us to answer....we dont know what mics you like for different applications, and what areas you think you are lacking in......

I have never heard a tube mic... am I missing something? Also, I have no omni's, (I got the mc012, maybe I should get the omni capsules?)

I dunno, I am confused.

You have a little bit overlap in a few areas, which isn't bad...it gives you different flavors, but at this point it may be more beneficial to have a wider variety of mics.

I'd sell either the ATM25 as you already have a good kick drum/bass mic in the D112. Or either the MC012s or the MXL603s, whichever of those you like least.

Gidge's suggestion of selling a few of your mics and getting a nice LDC is a pretty good one. You're lacking a nice LDC, which could also double as an acoustic guitar mic, so you probably wouldn't miss one of your pairs of SDCs...at least I wouldn't.

For recording live piano with a choir, and also solo piano, would I be better served with a nice LD or with the pair of MXL603 (I would still keep the MC012). If so, what would you suggest as a nice LD, I was thinking something in the AT40xx series, but then, so many to choose from. Is there a very nice multipatern LD that would fit my needs for vocal and classical recording?
