I'm looking at buying an amp. Is a tube amp worth the extra cost? Which is better the Hot Rod DeVille 212 or the 410? should I spend the $750 on one of these tube amps or just buy a nice Line6 or something for about the same price?? I really would value your opinion.

I would get a real tube amp over any modelling amp. As far as which amp to get that is up to you. Whatever one gives you the tone you like. You don't say what type of sound you are hoping to get or what guitars you are going to use with it.

I'm using a les paul epiphone. I have effect pedals, so the amp really just needs to have a nice clean sound, but a little crunchy distortion would be nice too. I also want something that is at least a 2 12" combo.

There is no "right answer". Go and try them out. Rent them if you are uncomfortable playing in the store, most places rent most of their gear, and will even apply the rental price to a purchase if you decide quickly. The only right amp for you is the one you like the best.

sorry.

What pedals do you have?

Each amp will react to your pedals differently. For example, you said you want a nice clean sound. the Roland JC120 is the cleanest amp there is, yet sucks for analog distortion pedals. Those same pedals into my Marshall sound great. And sound great but very different into a Fender Twin. Get the idea? So instead of basing your tone on your pedals, base your tone on the amp and use the pedals to enhance.

If you want a nice clean then a fender is the way to go. I would stay clear of those HotRod amps....I think they are a bit darker than the other line of Fenders.

But you should play them first. Support the local economy. Don't buy crap over the internet. Go to a store.
