I'm starting a home studio and want to know which program is best for making beats and recording vocals on my computer. One guy I know uses Fruity Loops to make beats, but tells me Acid Pro 4.0 MIGHT be better. Could someone tell me if I should use Acid or Fruity Loops, or if there's a program better than both of them? He also uses some program called "Reason" to record his vocals, but I've never heard of it, could someone tell me if this is a good program to use? ANY help would be much appreciated.

C'mon, asking which is "best" is about like asking which car is "best." It's very subjective. Read reviews of all the products you mentioned, try their demos... then you decide which does most of what you want, and best fits your personality and way of thinking...

Roger that, he's right. Rap takes very little. Just about any recording software will do for you.
