I have been using a Tascam Dp-008ex, Rode Nt1-A and a pair of Rokit 6 monitors and now with a new PC on the way I have been thinking about getting a interface.. I don't need a high end interface just something that will give me the same sound quality as the DP-008ex.. Would the presonus Audiobox 22VSL be a good choice?

Thanks

If you wanted to keep the DP-008 "in the system" then no, IMHO it wouldn't.

I shall, for a change(!) start by suggesting the Focustite Scarlet 8i6. I have just acquired one and it seems excellent. Good pre amps with adequate gain and low noise and unlike some of the smaller of the "i" series, I have read no bad reports of it. But MOST usefull is that the 8i6 has two extra line inputs and so the Tascam could be semi-permanently plumbed in allowing all the signals to be routed thru' the Focusrite.

But now, you ALL know I am going to say "The Native Instruments KA6 can do all that, has lower latency, better drivers and is a bit cheaper!" PLUS! It comes with Cubase and a shedload of other stuff).

What is the maximum number of tracks you will want to record at the same time? How many microphone preamps do you need for that?
Those, and your budget $$, will help people advise.

I wasn't planning on keeping the Tascam in the loop.

budget isn't a issue at all, I just love writing music and want at least the same sound quality or better as the Tascam.. I have no plans on making professional demos to submit for a record contract or anything like that so high end equipment is not needed..

I only record acoustic guitar and limited amounts of vocals and have only recorded one track at a time..

In that case, no brainer (for me!) Steinberg UR22.

I have the older Presonus Audiobox USB. Not a fan anymore. Maybe the newer ones are fine but... Mine requires a direct box to reduce the guitar direct input signal enough to my DAW. And I had to get a separate phantom power unit as the onboard has a high pitch hum when active.

Y'all should pop over to the debate on DI boxes (which has opened out to the "silly never should have happened" shortcomings of AIs and reviews thereof) at Sound on Sound forum. Don't desert HR tho'but!
