I was wandering which you prefer to record with. The pc or the standalone recorders.
 
Your asking this in a Computer Recording and soundcard forum?

You know whats the results are going to be.

I do PC stuff. For my purposes it works OK. The only thing that I find really annoying about PC recording is the fan noise. This problem has been hashed around here somewhat, and some possible (and more reasonable than liquid cooling systems and refrigeration units) solutuions that have come out of the think tank are:

1. Isolate the tower in a baffled cabinet

2. Duct the tower and power supply to a fan unit in a different location, thus eliminating the fans in the tower all together

3. Same as #2, except put the fan(s) in a baffled cabinet if you don't have the luxury of ducting out of the room

I have yet to really give any a go, but will be trying 1 - 3 alone or in combinaion, and if it works... ...I'll be a happy camper!!!
 
I prefer standalone for recording...I like knobs...and I like to do my editing on a PC because its easier than cutting tape.

Heh, I think i speak for most guys when I say I like "knobs" too :p
 
i'd go for one of those digital standalone units from mackie or tascam if i had the money, but pc is the way to go for me for the time being. editing waveforms and envolopes is SO cool.:)
being able to update your software is also a zillion times better than having to buy brand new hardware units whenever an updated version comes up.

I don't understand the question....

Are we talking Cd Burners?

Or are we talking PC DAW vs Standalone DAW?


If it's Burners... then my answer is stand alone

If it's DAW's were talking about... It's PC.... These stand alone units by Mackie and Tascam are hardly worth the price....

You get the same thing with a decent PC and Digi 001, for $2000-$3000 (including computer)

Those stand alone things are like $5000 buy the time you buy the I/O and Drives...

Never Had A problem with my Digi 001 PC set up... I love it!
Simple to use and powerful as hell!

Im 98% sure I can trade files with mac, but never tried it yet...

I think Macs Read AIFF Files Rather than Wav, and I do have the option Of saving as AIFF's

So im Pretty Sure it works...

You can't kill aliens on a stand alone... so where's the fun? :D

Seriously, if I did a lot of remote recording for $$$$ I would get a stand alone rig, but for static basement studio recording a PC based DAW is more flexable and cheaper, provided you have the know-how to maintain it.

btw, there are many people who do remote sessions with pcs.
i usually have to drag everything to the studio when i want to track drums. i'll be doing it next friday and saturday. it sucks, but it's the only way for me right now.

Computers suck! But they're the best we have for the moment, so I vote PC or Mac - whichever.

have to agree there.
computers can be REALLY annoying.
try to install two soundcards in your computer and you'll see what i mean. ;)
