Which digital multitrack is best?

Hi, I'm looking for a Digital multitrack.

I play bass mainly, but contruct songs around that but would also like to record bass solos and so whatever I buy needs to handle a lot of low end.

Here are the models I have seen in my price range...

Boss BR-864
Fostex VF-80 EX (without CDR)
Korg D12
Tascam DP-01 FX

So far the Boss and the Tascam look best, but that is purely based on viewing specs and not hearing any recordings.

Which model would you recomend as someones first recorder? And which handles bass best?

I don't have experience with any of those except for the fostex (I have a VF08, older brother of the VF80, older brother of the VF80EX)

It's easy to use, and a lot of fun...Just two inputs though

If you don't already have an external CDR, I would recommend getting a recorder with a built-in one. You'll wish you had.
 
I use to own the D-12 and it was awesome. It's very easy to use, has acceptable effects (PLENTY of them!) Has a direct input for bass and guitar as well as amp and speaker modeling for both. IMO, for that price range you can't go wrong with the Korg. I recorded Slapdragon's (local band) whole cd with it.
 
The best multitrack recorder is the Yamaha AW4416.

I'm not sure you'll find one that handles low end better than any other.
 
Just use your computer get a cheap USB interface and torrent the rest

I use a Korg, D1200 and a D1600.

I don't use them cuz I think they are better sounding. I've tried several brands, took 'em home and used them for a week. What I like about the Korg is the way it's set up. So damn easy to use.

As I tried five different ones, I recorded them clean with the same setting on my amp and rack.
I couldn't tell one from the other.
Sounds the same as the others I tried.

Fiddle with them before you make the decision. Some seem easier to work for some people than others.

I use the Yam 2816 and it records great; however, the bus system and options to click patching kind of puzzle me at times.

Thanks in advance. I'm kind of thinking about getting a Korg. Just waiting to see what pops up this year. Yam is about due for another recorder.

Hey Hornet.
You know how one kind of car drive differently from another? Well, that's about the best way I can explain it. I like the feel.
 
Anyone had any experiance with the Tascam DP-01 FX?
That looks like one of the best options still, the Korg D12 looks great, but I'm finding it hard to find a place that stocks them here in the UK.

I think you can go to the Korg website and if you poke around you'll find a page that can help you locate a place.
I also think Korg is an English company. Should be one around someplace.

The 1200 is really nice. I use it when I work with other people on collabs.
I use my 1600 on my own stuff. More bells and whistles. What I really like about the 1600 is the screen. It's larger and easier to see and you can touch it and change from one event to another.
