Check Ebay and look for a dbx 224 or a 224X which was the newer version with cooler lights and calibration thumb knobs on the front panel.
The 224 is a type II dbx nr system and is all you need for a cassette based format.
TASCAM did make their own branded dbx nr unit for these decks but I doubt you will ever find one at this stage of the game.

Silly of me considering I used to own a couple of them when I had my first 3340S, 20 years ago!
They're a half rack space stereo unit where the others I mentioned were full rack space width.

Type II dbx was formulated specifically to the cassette format's bass characteristics and as such, did not process the signal below 50 Hz to avoid severe pumping and breathing artifacts.

It's just the fact, that for all the Tascam 2-track recorders that have an outboard/external port for dbx, the DX-2D is the specific unit to have.

I don't mean to be a shit head here but, Daniel asked for a suitable NR unit for his TASCAM 133 Cassette deck.
dbx type II, is designed specifically for cassette decks and dbx type I, is specifically designed for open reel recorders running at 7.5 ips or higher.
The DX-2D is a perfect match for the 22-2, 32, 42, 52 and the BR20T. It was not designed or recommended by TASCAM to use it with a cassette deck. Not even a high speed one.

OK guys, the 133 cassette has a DBX-connection on the back for Tascam RX-8 DBX-unit.

GFM, I don't have any Tascam literature that quotes specific dbx units for recorders. I think*, MO, that the DX-2D would be suitable for the 133B. [& I understand the techincal explanation, thanx.]

I don't have the Tascam-lit reference to any specific outboard dbx unit. dbxI units were never specified for cassette units, but dbxII was optimized for cassette, I agree.
