Which cassettes?...

Tascam specs type II for their 4-tracks, I've always used Maxell XLII to good effect, they have the advantage of being available almost everywhere.

Most 4 tracks prefer CrO2 tapes like Maxel XLII ( also XLIIS )

One rule of thumb, as told to me by a long time 4 tracker, look for the darkest tape. As near-black as can be.

If you look closely at a Normal tape, it will be a medium brown ======================
If you examine a CrO2 tape it will be very dark brown or almost black ======================

The darker the better

Yo 89 Slashes & No Stitches:

Sony UX Pro cassettes are very good. Have used them for a long time; however, they are a bit difficult to find. Maybe search on the net? Since I moved to digital, I don't use as much tape--my sale's person gave me a gaggle of cassette tape a while back and, in turn, I gave away some of it.

BTW, the Sony UX Pro tape is "very black."

Green Hornet :p  :D :D

I'm having trouble finding local places but thanks for the advice. Oh, and it's slash-89, as in the guitarist, and then my year ;)

Damn, I can get XLII's at my grocery store. And I even got them once in the checkout at Linens & Things, just last year.
