so i'm looking to get something better than my sblive card and get into some serious recording. i use sonar, so i'm looking for something with good wdm support. i'd like to be able to record 8 tracks at once (decent drumkit setup), and money isn't a huge object, but i should probalby keep it under a grand.

i've been looking at the aardvark q10 and the motu mk 3 and 882. the cakewalk forum recommended the inca 88.

any suggestions or advice?

My friend just bought the Q10, and he is a big Cakewalk guy. It doesn't work with Sonar, so he's thinking about taking it back. I liked it (even though I don't own one, yet).

yeah, q10 is supposed to be great for sonar. its got it's own special wdm drivers... anyone else have bad experiences with the q10 and sonar?

The Q10 should work with CW9. In fact, the Q10 ships with a copy of CW9 that you can then use to get a $150 - 250 upgrade to sonar.

The Q10 is excellent hardware but there are some issues with drivers. Do a search on this site for Aardvark and you will find plenty of stories of people working to get their system running right.

When it is running stable, it is a great system and it WILL work with just about any tracking software you can think of.

BTW, it also comes with MIDI in and out for driving Sonar softsynths!

M-Audio soundcrds have very good bang for the buck. The Delta 1010 might suit you well.

regarding my earlier post, I just got the new drivers from Aardvark and it seems as though my problems are gone. Still a bit early to tell, but I ran all weekend with only one small hang up.
