Where would you use your best preamp on a drum set?

I have a Robbie Blue which is a nice warm tube pre especially on vocals. My other pres are the dmp-3 and the ones in the digi002R.

Right now i have the snare's sm57 running through the Blue Robbie.

The overheads (two mxl603s) running through the MAudio dmp-3 and the 3 toms are kick running through the Digi's pres with Sennhieser e604 mics on the toms and an Audix d6 mic on the kick.

I figured the snare was pretty important so im using robbie for that.

I know the obvious answer to my question is "just hear what sounds best" but is there a general rule of thumb that i can follow?

here a sample of my sound so far.

what kind of music are you using it for? If the snare really stands out and is up front you might want to use it on that. If it is just quick and snappy and kind of set back in the mix, definatley use it on the OH's.

well, my good pre is only one channel unfortunately. i have the overheads (603s') going through a dmp3.
