Hi everyone. I'm a newb here, this being my first post. I've been in music all my life and play the guitar, bass, piano, cello, and I also sing. I'm starting to look into recording some of the stuff I've written on my own.

Currently now I do a lot of work with my acoustic guitar and piano.

I know a lot about music, but the recording process, I don't. So, basically I need some pointers as to what kind of equipment I need to buy and where I can look to find some good deals. I'm completely clueless. So, where to start?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

What sort of budget are you looking at.
As you will be recording yourself only (i presume) and each instrument separatly (i presume) then you could spend anywhere from £150 ($300) to £1000 ($2000) without going over the top.
Playing on your own means you can get good things designed for just one user. Test out anything substantial you buy and match it to yourself if you see what i mean especially for singing. Go for a small mixer. Behringer make great, smaller mixer. However, a separate pre-amp would be nice for a solo performer. Don't go Behringer for this but shop around and ask people whats best.
As for Mics, get a nice large diaphram condenser for singing, piano, and acoustic guitar. For electric guitar, a Shure SM57 is great for micing up amps.
You will also need a half decent sound card if you are using a computer. Just get a creative one because they dont have many inputs and you dont need many.

There are many great books for starting home recording. The one i got was
Home Recording For Musicians FOR DUMMIES.
This is available from Amazon and is incredible useful and will explain any words which are new to you that i may have mentioned.
Hope this lot helps you.

The "tapco 6306" ( new version "blend 6" ) mixer is very good too :)

didn´t buy & use any behringer stuff. Can´t say which is better ;)

Well, my account is very limited and will be on the low side. I want to be able to do just myself but I'd also like to be able to mix stuff and have muli-layer tracks.

I understand a lot of the lingo, just don't know where to look and what all I need.
