Hey guys. I'm very new to this.
I've just set up a little recording space in my house and I was wondering where is the best place to put my guitar amp in the room for mic'ing up? I'm using a Rode M3
I've attached a floor plan of the room.
Its nothing special and I have a very small budget.
Any input would be great :)

First thing I will mention, is the desk is in the worst possible place. Corners are typically the last place you want anything. Bass buildup happens there the most. You don't have a lot of space to avoid this. I would first get the desk centered between the short sides as far off the wall as possible. Drums would be the most tolerable in the corner, though not ideal. Place bass traps in all corners and absorbers at first reflection points. Tons of info can be found here about these treatments and their necessity for recording.

You want to close-mic the guitar amp, so the position should be such that you are not getting a lot of reflections recorded, too.

good advice from jimmy and mjb ...... I'm gonna add: Mic it up in a few diferent locations and listen to the results and then whichever sounds best .... THAT's your spot.

I would try just next to the drums first, and mic it nice and close as suggested. Maybe even take a DI too, just so you can get rid of the room completely should it be necessary.

Yes that is good info. I would definitely try out different amp placements around the room. It's all about not getting those nasty reflections from the room. Even better would be to have the amp outside the room so you can hear what is coming from the monitors better.
