Double Cut Away

I have n-track and I am really confused on how to even start. But for the stuff I have: A Delta 1010 24bit 96KHZ Sound Card. I have a Mackie 1604- VLZ pro 16 channel MC/line mixer. I also have a par of $450 Monitors(My friend has the box so I don't know what kind they are). I have a C 2000 B condenser Mic ( I use for vocals and the snare) and 2 Oktava MK012 condenser for the over heads. I have a shure mic for the bass drum and SM-57s. But what is the best way to learn the program if you are just staring out and don't know much of anything? I am really confused on where to plug the mic cables into the mixer and how to make it record anything. I know these quetions seem really obvious but any help I can get would be great.

Plug the mics into the preamps on the mixer, then use the direct outs from the mixer (or tap the inserts by plugging in the cord to the first click) to go to the 1010. Set up N-track to record from the different channels by setting the inputs to be the 1010 and hit record!

Really it's not that simple, you have to do gain staging and make sure you keep a hot signal all the way through, but there are the basics!

To learn N-track more see if you can download the manual from the site (www.fasoft.com).

DCA, what types of music are you creating?

AND....

What are you trying to accomplish with your music?

Types of music Question

Well me and my friend are starting to record bands and we are recording Pop, Ska, and Rock mainly since we have a really good idea of how that type of music is supposed to generally sound. And we are in a band and we hope in a few months to record our next CD on our own which we feel will bring us to a new level with our music on a recording that we can take our time on and make it sound the way we want. That is a big reason for getting into recoding for us.

DCA,

Well, you've got enough gear to accomplish your goals so don't let anybody tell you need something else.

My first question; Have you installed the 1010 yet?

My second question: What are the specs of your computer?

I have installed the 1010 it was actaully easier than I thought. But for my computer I have 640 ram with a 1 Gig Processer. Its not the fastest thing ever, but considering that we only use it for recording its works for what we are doing right now.
