Ive been really happy with my old, old YSM-1's, but I need portability and I may just pick up a set of the powered ones (If I don't find a used set of powered monitors here). But my old Yorkville dealer no longer exists. Is there anyone out there offering deals on them you know of? I know I won't get the discount I got from my local guy, but I'm having trouble finding them many places online.

i can´t answer your question where to get them but have an question about your yorkvilles.

How would you describe the sound of those ? Are they harsh ? Like Yamaha msp-5 ? Fatigue ? More like Genelec ?

Would be nice to hear your experiences with them  :)

harsh? no way. fatiguing? no, Ive mixed 14 hour sessions on them and been happy.

I regularly hop from studio to studio and have to quickly adjust to a wide array of monitors. But Ive always been able to get really clean mixes on my Yorkvilles in really short amounts of time. I feel they're my "home" monitors, as in what I reference everything to.

I think they have great bass response for such a small monitor, I don't use an additional sub and never have at home. The mid is very detailed, I never feel anything is left out. And the high end is not piercing or tiring like some other monitors I have used.

nice to hear. thanks.

it´s time for me to hear them now in germany.

Which amp do you use with your passives ?

i have here an not really good A/V receiver from sherwood with Direct Tone ( eq eliminating ). The passives costs here around 300 € and the actives 600 € yes,

I have always used a Mackie 1400i power amp for the Yorkvilles and its always worked really great for me. Really clean pure sound and never any distortion.

thanks for that link, I'm goinna check it out.

you sound happy with the Yorks...so what would it take for you to drop some cash? or what speaker would it take for you to upgrade??

Right now I'm all over the place and I need a small powered monitor. At first I was thinking the powered YSM1 was too big and too much, but I will probably end up getting them in the end. My setup at home with the big power amp is just too much to take around with me. The rest of my setup is a laptop and a Gator Studio2Go rig and I take it everywhere I am.

As far as upgrading...well I have used monitors that cost a whole lot more money, but still feel really comfortable on the Yorkies. No reason for me to mess with a good thing.

i might be interested in those passive yorks real cheap...just to hear 'em.

are they really that good that there's no sense in upgrading until you hit the $1,000 range?

Check this out. Whenever I have problems finding gear I want online, I always fire up good ol' Froogle. Go to Google.com and click the link for Froogle and type in what you are looking for. Hasn't failed me yet!

I saw some in the AMS catalogue, but it looks like they just have the guitar amps. Might be worth a call. www.americanmusical.com

I bought my old Peavey powered monitor on ebay four years ago or so and it has taken a real beating without a complaint. Not exactly pristine fidelity, but it has never let me down when other stuff has come and gone.
