My wifes old HP had the monitor poop out.

Can anyone point me in the direction of cheap monitors? I don't want to invest much in this, just to get her by until the whole PC fries... (no, she won't let me replace the PC, even though I think I could build one for pretty cheap)

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I just bought a NEC monitor on Ebay for $75 plus 30 shipping. That isn't especially a great deal, as I wanted to match an existing monitor I already had for my dual setup.
But, there are some GREAT deals on CRT monitors. It is usually the shipping that jacks the price up, so check that carefully.

go for a 17 inch flat panel for about 200-250. Then when the PC fries, build a new one for cheap like you said :)

Again, newegg.com or ebay.com...check out the refurb section in newegg, also.

You could check out www.mcbia.com... Thats were i got both of my monitors. I lived nearby, so i didn't have to pay shipping, but they've got some pretty good prices nonetheless.

WOW!!!!

Now THAT"S what I'm talking about!!! They are reputable, this isn't a scam? It almost seems too good to be true. What gives?

Ahhh, "like new and used". Why not "previously viewed"?
Guaranteed "non-DOA (dead on arrival)".

hmm, that's definitely within my pricerange, geesh, they cost more to deliver!

Thanks Echelon, BTW- where are they located? Can't seem to find that....

Check out the local computer shows if you want cheap CRT monitors. I picked up a 17" Sun monitor for $35. It was used, but came with a 3-year warranty. Now my mother-in-law's 266mhz PC looks like a Sun blade server (as long as you don't look under the desk!)
New CRTs are tough to find now, and will still run you over 100 bucks, so used is the way to go.

For something to get by with, definitely look locally. There's a place here in Overland Park called "Computer Depot." I walked in the other day on a whim because I needed a monitor for a Windows 2000 network I'm building for my MCSA certification, and there was a whole stack of used 15" monitors for $5 apiece. Then the guy carried it out to my car for me. It works fine.

Used monitors are cheap and good. With the advent of the LCD monitor, which is perceived as sexy and better (but isn't better), individuals and organizations are dumping their old monitors. Paying for shipping is ridiculous unless the price is close to ZERO.

Don't get your monitor from mail order unless you can get a deal on shipping. The shipping costs might be half-as-much as the monitor itself.

Check out the deals at your local Office Depot, Staples, Circuit City, etc.

You can usually pick up a 17" monitor for $100 or less and a 19" for $200...
OfficeDepot has a KDS 17" for $128, BestBuy has a 19" Samsung for $199, etc.

Otherwise look for local computer fairs or computer shops and see if they have any 2nd-hand units.

Glad you checked it out. They are located just outside of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They are reputable, I got a 21 incher from them for 50 bucks once and it hasn't given me any problems. I just got a new 17" one and it's great so far. It's most def not a scam, they sell stuff on ebay too, but they stopped selling monitors on ebay for some reason... They are very reputible and have another store in some other part of the midwest.

Don't forget to check out the local Wal-Mart, as well...especially if it's a Super Wal-Mart. Better selection, in a Super Wal-Mart (nearest is 40 miles away from me), than in the regular Wal-Marts (which is only 5 blocks from me, darnit).
