Hey y'all,

I was looking at ordering some new Maxell IIXL tapes, and tape.com only carries normal bias now. :(

Any other ideas on good deals on good tape?

The Trutone tape here says it's loaded with Maxell IIXL tape, but I've heard mixed things about Trutone.

I can find genuine Maxell or TDK high bias tape around, but it's like $2.50 a piece or so.

Anyone have experience with this stuff?

Thanks

Sorry Beagle, I've been looking on the net to no avail. I guess their getting harder to find every day. I did see some on junkbay that were sealed. I was wondering about a thread you posted a few months ago about getting a Tascam 38 off Craigslist. What happened to that?

I hate to say it but it looks like you are just going to have to pay the extra to get high bias tapes. Just be glad you aren't looking for chrome tapes, they are getting really hard to find.

I did get the 38! I have it here; it looks in excellent shape, and all the functions work. I haven't yet gotten tape for it, so I haven't been able to put it through its paces. Things have been kind of tight, but I'm hoping to be able to get some before Christmas (or maybe hit up the little lady for some as a present).

My wife always complains because every Christmas I always ask for things that she has to order online or get used or something! :)

had two tapes in the 238's i got, he said that's where he got all his tapes, they seem fine. but i plan on ordering a small batch to test out myself and then stock up if they're ok.

Try http://www.tapetape.com/ for the reel tape. I called last week and talked to Bill and he told me all his stuff is guaranteed. It is all 1 pass and degaussed. If I remember right the 1/2" tape ran about $35.00 The site is being revamped so call for the best pricing. Good luck. BTW I'm with you on the Christmas thing. My wife loves to buy me things from a list that we trade so I don't know exactly what I might get. Last Christmas I found my 38 and begged to have the money to buy it. She agreed, but half the fun for her is the buying and wrapping part.

Cool, thanks for the tape tip! $35 is not bad at all. :)

Um...do a search on this forum for "Tape and Tape". VERY bad reputation. I'll keep it at that but be forewarned.

Ah ... thanks for the heads up!

So I guess RMGI is still the safest bet, huh?

I'm glad...

I got over 1,250 new TypeII name brand cassettes when the getting was good!:eek:;)

PS: this does not depict all of them!:eek:;)

Holy cow...are we really getting to that point where we have to start stocking up from the few remaining retailers? I guess I just kind of took it for granted cassettes would be available indefinitely...oops :o:(.

Locally, we still have XLIIs readily available at Walgreens drug stores and Bull Moose record stores, but reading this makes me think I need to go clean them out!

Never ordered tape online before...but if I get desparate, I have about 350 high bias tapes with various stuff already on them and in a pinch I suppose I could record over that stuff (mostly commercial music) with my own multitracking...sad.

Hey, thanks for the warning guys. I haven't done any business with them yet and now I'm happy I didn't.

The Walgreen's stores around here used to stock them. I used to buy them all of the time. All of a sudden they just disappeared. I asked a manager of one what happened to them and he seemed clueless about it. I've moved since then, so I'll have to check around the stores in the new area.

Now Dave, you couldn't possibly use all of those in your lifetime, could you? :)

Let's see .... there's one of you .... and there's .... how many of us? heheheh :)

No, I don't think I can,...

tho' I plan on living a long, long time!;)
