I am interested in stepping into the amazing realm of digital recording. I worked pro audio for a couple years so I am familiar with the various elements of sound reinforcement. However, I am rather UNFARMILIAR with recording technology. I understand much can be transferred back and forth, but you know. I am looking for an interface that will allow me to record directly to my PC. (AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 517mb PC2700 Samsung, 80gig Maxtor HD)
My question is what direct recording interface would you guys recommend? I need to record, simultaneously, one guitar, vox, bass, and drums (4 or 5 piece) for a pop rock band (ie Collective Soul) and a very raw garage band (ie The Hives). I know I play in 2 VERY different bands. I would need to record them live, but also individually, I would want to be able to record a whole song by myself.
I've been looking at things like the Digi 001, Aardvark Q10, and the MOTU 2408 mkII. As I am currently on a budget of around a $1000 for the interface, but, if these things are crap I don't want them. Just like when I stayed with my first crappy amp so I could save and get a Marshall, instead of settling for some Crate, I'll wait to get something that I'll be able to use later. I will also need the flexibility of lots of I/O, I see I can add multiple Q10s and 2408s, does anyone know if the Digi 001 works this way?
I also want something that will be easy to hook up with other gear too, you know, mic pres, compressors, mixers, etc.
Any insight that you can share with me would be greatly appreciated.
