Where should I plug all of these mics?

Life used to be simple. One mic, one preamp. Then two mics, two preamps. Now I have several mics, but still two preamps....I don't think I need any more preamps.

Should I just plug and unplug from the preamps as I use different mics, or should I use a mixer or patch bay?

Obviously, I know nothing about mixers or patchy bays when it comes to combining with preamps. BTW, I'm on Pro Tools via MBox.

If you're only using very few mics at any given time, I would think it's hardly worth installing a patch bay... If you're using a lot of outboard, maybe...

But then, only you would really know if you would benefit from it.

If you decide to use one, get a decent one... Compared to how much cable is going to cost you, the bay is cheap. Neutrik makes a nice TRS/TRS unit for only $100 or so...

Thanks, John. My main concern is that I don't bugger up the preamp XLR inputs from the constant plugging and unplugging. I'm sure they're made for it, though.
