Where should a bbe 482 be used

Where should a bbe 482 be used in tracking, mixing, and mastering?

I guess if I was worried about tracking sheets blowing off the desk, I could use a BBE to hold 'em down.

I have only found my bbe to used on a couple of things like.... kick drums, filling a space in the rack, hmmm maybee i sould sell it -towards my mic pre fund.

Might be good for spicing up old dull '70s 4-track cassette recordings. Other than that, the paperweight idea has merit.

There are some positive usess for it.

Aside from bringing old tape back to life.....

You can add it as a subtle addition to some instruments and samples. Two ideas that work well can be a snare and a string ensemble played by synths. I can add realism to a synth sound.

No, that isn't it, it always makes me wonder how it mangles most sounds!!!

I think Shailat has a point though. Here and there, it might help on something that sounds very sterile.

I've never used mine for a recording effect. I have it inline to my amp on my pa. And I am convinced it reinforces the sound in a positive way. Isn't that what they are made for? I always understood it to be a tool to maximize the sound as it's being played, not recorded...

BTW, I realize that is not in accordance with my original question. I just wanted to point out that it does have some redeeming value. I just asked about the tracking/mixing/mastering because I heard it mentioned briefly in a previous thread.

Think of a BBE as a fancy Loudness button on your home stereo. It will definately give you more bass and crisper highs but that isn't always a good thing. Think of it as an effect to use as needed.

If your listening to a track and think it just sounds too dull then maybe the BBE will be just the trick to spice it up. There are very few devices I would ever use on a master buss or final mix. In general I don't like to run the mix through anything it doesn't absolutely need because every piece of gear takes something away fromt the whole signal. You just have to make sure the loss is worth the added effect.

Since you do mainly synth stuff you can be a little more liberal with it but I wouldn't recomend a BBE for acoustic or natural sounds.
