Where do you think I need an Upgrade?

I have a graduation coming up and that means tons of cash to spend on gear. But I'm not exactly sure where to go. I'm personally a rack guy, I love preamps and compressors and EQs(though I don't really have any nice ones), but my mic collection is pretty weak and my converters may need an upgrade. If you got a minute I'd appreciate any thoughts.

So here's the situation, I record on a soundcraft ghost 24 (just got it!!) through 3 delta 1010's into Cubase SE 3, I have an ART MPA with modded tubes, a EUREKA recording channel and a PRO VLA II with stock tubes. As for mics I have 3 sm57's, 2 sennheiser e609's, Groove tubes GT 67, Rode NT1000, AKG D112, 2 Audix F 15's, 3 Audix F 10, 1 Audix F 12, MXL 990 & 991, 2 AKG 170's, 1 sennheiser e604 and that does it for mics, I monitor through Yamaha HS50m's and have 3 pairs of the AKG k44's with the presonus HP4.

Waddya Think?

Thanks,

First, congratulations on the upcoming graduation! :)

While I have no doubt that money will be burning a hole in your pocket, I'm obliged to the opinion that If you don't have a pretty good idea of where you need an upgrade, that's probably a good indication that you don't need one yet.
What's the point of upgrading if you haven't hit the limits of what you already have yet?

You wanna spend your graduation money on fun? I recommend a nice DSLR camera. You'll get far more pretty girls with a DSLR than you will with a piece of rack gear :D.

Pictures of? Cause I don't know many pretty girls that come up and talk to me because of my nice DSLR with a honking lens on it.

Buy a sports car. That will get pretty girls.

Sounds expensive. ;)
So the logical question would be what are you doing, recording bands or..? And what/where do you feel is holding you back?

I record all the local bands in my area, and some out of my area. I mean It's hard to say what's holding me back because I want to say almost everything. But I would say it comes down to Mics or Rack gear.

I was thinking maybe a Rack EQ, maybe API 550 stuff. I was looking at the SCA preamp stuff and that sounds real nice on drums. Then again my mic collection isn't the most impressive, I was thinking maybe going for some nice SDC's or even an AKG 414 also an RE 20 is something I've had my eyes on.

I'd like to get a nice compressor too, I was looking at the 2500 for a drum buss. What's good on Vocals as far as compressors go?

I love mixing in the Ghost and it's well worth, I guess I'm just a buttons and Knobs guys :D

Thanks,
-Barrett

Haha I have a 1996 gas guzzlin' chevy suburban, that usually does the trick!

Upgrade the monitoring and add some broadband trapping. Grab a SM7b if there's some $$$ left over.

Well, you gotta work it, Myriad. You don't just sit there and let your DSLR hang out like a big penis and wait for them to come to you, You use your camera as an icebreaker, an excuse to talk to them, to get their picture (which give you an opening to ask for an accompanying phone number), to put your arms around them as you show them how to take a picture of you, etc. "Excuse me, ladies, but I just got this camera and I'm dying to practice with it. And since you are so much better looking than that pathetic phony over there with that penis substitute of a car, I was hoping I could take your picture."

Bring a dog along with you and you're golden :D.

That doesn't work too well with a new compressor.

What's good as far as Monitors and Broaband Absorbers go (I usually make mine). I've had the same monitors for all my life because I haven't been totally sure what to look for.

Thanks for the help,
