I just got my first MIDI keyboard - the M-audio Radium 61. It didnt come with any sound softwart or anything. Any suggestions? Is there anything free? I really don't have any money right now.

Thanks alot for the help.

do you already have any recording software? support midi and vsti? if so, you can pick from the ton of free vsti plugins. if not, about all i see out there are free vsti hosts. they don't record anything. they simply allow you to run vsti's on your computer and control with midi.

What kind of computer do you have, what operating system, what kind of audio card? It's hard to answer a question without knowing anything about your setup and goals.

I have a laptop with widows XP. I am usinga Tascam US-122 as my sound card.

Do you have ANY audio/midi software? Did you buy the Tascam used?

If you have absolutely no music software, I suggest you buy a copy of Computer Music magazine. They come with a DVD. On every issue of that DVD they put on the CM Studio software suite which includes a sequencer (Computer Muzy's) a couple of synths and a sampler. They're not full on Logic/Cubase killers but for the price they're pretty capable. Computer Muzy's supports the VST standard so until you decide to get yourself a full-blown sequencer it will allow you to add other soft instruments and FX.

I second that

Computer Muzys is a great sofware sequencer. especially for their price

There is also this free sequencer where you can try it out. It is not as powerfull as Computer Muzys, but its free :D
Its called Krystal Audio Engine
Free sequencer

Also in KVR there is a user rating page where you can have an idea of the best free softwares available
Here is the link, just see the rating for free plug ins..most of them are soft synths, but there are mastering tools, sequencers and everything else
I sugest you take a look
