I've just got a 2nd hard-drive and put it where my first one is i.e in the top bit (5.25 in bay, I think). I just screwed it on one side with two screws, which, I thought, is a bit weird, but seems secure enough.

Then, I realised, hey, isn't it supposed to go in the bottom bit with the floppy drive - but not much ventilation down there???

Is it OK, just screwed in like that, or do I need to get a caddy thingy????, or does it have to go in the floppy drive bit??

nothing is ever easy is it?!?!!

You should really pick up a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter kit someplace...they're only like 5 bucks.

What you've got going on probably isn't too bad, but I would be worried about:

1) The hard drive will move a lot more when you jiggle, kick, bump, or otherwise touch the case.

2) The little screws made from 0.000000000000000001 ounces of aluminum are going to be under a great deal of stress and who knows, they might just snap off. You would literalize the phrase "hard drive crash!"

3) Hard drives are pretty much sealed up air-tight. Sometimes the seal is held in place by screws, other times it's just a long strip of metallic tape. Either way, the pressure caused by the drive hanging from screws in one side of the unit might be enough to bend the frame a little bit and crack the seal. Who knows....I'm sure they didn't anticipate this :)

You can probably just stick the drive down under the floppy with your other drive. This will cause a lot of extra heat on both drives, but that's not necessarily bad. Hard drives don't have very rigid cooling requirements. Just to be safe, though, I'd get a 3.5 to 5.25" kit and mount the new drive up top.

You obviously

Dont have room for it....Just send it to me, and I will install in in my machine, I have lots of room. Then, when you want to store something on it, just burn it to cd and mail it to me. Small stuff you can just email.

I dunno but I'm sure I won't tell my wife that I just bought a brand new Computer stuff and I wasn't sure where to put it. She'll sell it right away for her new shoes...
(she knows where to put 'em right place...) :D

Hmmm. That's funny, I buy new computer stuff and my woman put's her shoe in my ass!

She leaves the hard drive alone though...

...then if I were you, instead of thinking how to load your HD into your small weird CPU, I'll put some extra cash (round about $20-25) and get bigger and wider house for my CPU for God sake. Trust me, you don't have to wait untill you get hard drive crash and find you loose your valuable data inside it. If you really count on your PC, then make sure you feed it good... :D I think...

My $0.02

ok,........gotcha

& just for the record, just in case there's some confusion, my girlfriend is quite happy about my hard-drive, in fact just the other day she was commenting on it's sleek, silent power...

she was going OOH, it is a nice one

so there..

... Nice HD I think too.
... Nice girlfriend I think too.
