Where do I go from here

I wanted to start a home studio for my band a few years ago. I started buying gear and learning to work with the software and then the motivation fizzled when I couldn't get any good results from the setup.

Now I think 3 things went wrong.

1) I was basically winging it as far as what gear to buy and how to set it up.
2) I never even really learned how to use the software properly, partly because I hated the software layout.
3) I ran out of money.

So, I now have a very good job, plenty of time and money, and tons of motivation. I figured if I tell you guys what I own, you can tell me where to go from here.

Also, I do have a list of assigned reading material from the NOOBs section, I'm just a slow reader so give me some time.

Alienware 17X laptop: I9 Quad Core running at 3.47Ghz, 16GB or DDR3 RAM, 1TB HDD, Dolby surroundsound audio card.

M-Audio Profire 2626

1 Bass drum mic
2 Condensor mics
4 dynamic mics

A pair of huge stereo speakers for monitors

Plenty of cables

What I'm trying to record is two electric guitars, an electric bass, a standar size drum set, and 1 or two vocal. I have plenty of space, its just no that accoustic friendly, so I'm working on that.

What you've specified seems like it will satisfy your immediate requirements.

The "surroundsound audio card" is redundant, because the profire takes its place.

What will your recording space be? This will have a significant impact on the quality of recordings.

Basement, large, open, no dividing walls, cement floor/walls, low wooden ceiling. I plan on using sheets or something to shield the walls. I may even be able to get some of that foam egg crate stuff. I have a buddy who works at a warehouse who throws tons away.
