:confused: HELP ME PLEASE
I HAVE A DPO2 FIRST TIME USER .
IV MANAGED TO RECORD MIX AND MASTER AND EVEN BURN A CD BUT ALONG THE WAY I HAVE MANAGED TO CREATE A NICE CD ONLY MY PROBLEM IS THE VARIATION BETWEEN EACH SONG ON THE CD
SOME ARE HIGHER THAN OTHERS SOME HAVE MORE BASS I THINK ITS SOMETHING TO DO WITH MIXING AND MASTERING OR ARE THERE ANY FOOL PROOF WAYS TO GET A LEVEL SOUND FOR ALL MASTERED SONGS ON CD

I don't think they have invented software yet that will adjust the ebb and flow of an album. To get continuity between songs, you really have to adjust the sonic balances based on what you hear.

Having a room and full range monitoring system that is honest and translates well to the outside world helps... along with the experience to know what to listen for and how to make adjustments to accommodate.

The question to ask is why are the songs so different from each other and if these differences are easier to fix in the mixing stage or are they small enough that they can be messaged into place in the mastering stage. When the song is played on it's own, does it have to much low end or does the low end seem out of sorts only when compared with the next one? Is the next song bass shy?

Basically if your 100% happy with the individual mixes the mastering stage can and should be the place to able to achieve continuity. If these differences are wide then you might have some serious imbalances within the song mixes themselves that can be attended to in the mixing stage and then those mixes can in turn be fine tuned to work within the context of an album in mastering.

What I do is put all the songs up on Cubase on separate tracks and turn solo on so only one will play at a time, then hop around and compare the volumes, amount of bass etc...

All the eq is flat (off) and the volumes are all at zero.

When a song is not right I adjust the eq, volume, compression etc and resave it, then import it back in and turn off all the eq, fx and volume back to zero.

After a bit of this all the songs play back with no eq and the songs are balanced.

You can even put a few songs from major labels up there to compare your volumes and eq to them.
 
thank you buddy for your reply it helps just to know that other people are there for ya i have never used one of these sites before i always done things the hard way but knowledge from anyone is a welcome thing . i guess i must work harder on my mixing stage . cheers

thanks a lot you have given me renewed hope this sounds like a tricky process but i understand cubase is a pc recording programme which i have as i got afirewire desk with cubase first then realised i could not work it so then i got the tascam dpo2 and that helped get me on the road maybe if i try cubase for mixing rather than recording i might have more luck with it. can i just put my songs from dpo2 as wav onto cubase and then it will give me more mastering options or do i need to bring them onto cubase as individual tracks . once again thanks for your help

You can drag a WAV file right from your desktop onto Cubase. The WAV could be an individual track or a whole song, and it could be mono or stereo.

I've never tried it from a dpo2 but it would be normal to think that it would work.
 
my friend had a dp02 and i do believe you can just export the wav files from it to your desktop (drag and drop) then drop them into a daw
 
i have got gear a bose l1mark 11 system i have been playing in bands all my life from 5 piece bands down i play 9 instruments but because of recession here in ireland i am doing backing tracks to do a one man show pubs cant afford big money bands at moment so playing to backing tracks is alien to me let alone trying to mix them i tried buying backing tracks but could not play along to other peoples music its a bit easier and more natural playing to your own music . but i understand where your coming from i do a lot of learning from my own mistakes but this board is a good way to relate to others cheers
