Where are my WAV. Files?

I recorded a Song of about 8 tracks today in Cubasis, mixed it down and then looked for it in the usual folder. Instead of finding the triangular, orange colored files from WaveLabLite, I saw only files that say Wav. but have the Windows symbol on them. I can't edit them or send them to burn. The same Windows file showed up when I tried to extract a track from a CD. I'm a new user. But since recording has been going pretty well AND since I haven't, to my knowledge, changed anything in my setup, I'm a little confused about what's up. Help appreciated,

I'm not really sure what you are saying is the problem. But I'll take a guess.

When you mix down in Cubasis (or Cubase at least, I'm not familiar with Cubasis) it should produce a WAV file. It sounds like you do in fact see the WAV file, so there really is no problem there. Are you expecting Cubasis to create a WaveLabLite project?

Also, when you extract a file from a CD, it's normal that you will get a WAV file as a result. So no problem.

Are you a new user to Windows? Do you know how file associations work? This may explain why you are not seeing the orange triagle icons when you expect to see them. Your association might have gotten messed up. In Windows, each type of file (such as a WAV file) can be associated with a particular application. So, when you double-click on a file of that type, it will run the associated application and open up the file in it. Furthermore, when you look at the file in the Explorer, you see the file displayed with the icon of the associated application. For example, if you happen to have WAV files associated with WaveLabLite, all WAV files will be displayed as the orange triangle because that is WaveLabLite's icon. When you double-click on a WAV file, it will run WavLabLite and load that file in automatically.

So what I'm suggesting is, perhaps you used to have WAV files associated with WaveLabLite but somehow that association got lost. Now you just see the Windows icon instead. Could this be what happened? If so, let me know and I'll tell you how to setup the association again.

In the meantime, you can just run WaveLabLite first, then open the WAV files from within there. Then edit or burn away.

Thanks for your help Jim,
Your guesses are good ones. Duess at one of the other Forums said try: Find Winfile.exe, open, highlight a wav. file,File, Associate, Browse to find WaveLab.exe. Don't ask me why, but this did the trick.
