When tracks 7-8 are mastered, does the mastering follow when moved?

Hi, long inquiry...but what I am trying to figure out, is, if you master tracks 7-8 on the Fostex VF08...when you move them either to virtual tracks or stereo pairs....does the mastering tag along or is it only for when you are sending out to tape deck, CD burner etc. ? I looked far and wide and researched but this is seemingly a very important factor, as I use this stereo pair to fatten up most of my demos. So please help me narrow down this role of the mastering using these particular tracks, TIA< Psongman

I think you'd be OK to utilize the mastered 7/8. But why not try it and see?

hey i have a vf80 and i master on the 7/8 trck
when u hit the master button you get 3 band eq comprssion & reverb you can play it and it will sound the way you tweak it when u hit record play it records it to a new program to the first two channel as a stereo pair exactly how u masterd it
good luck

not sure

i dont have a vf80, i have a mr-8. but i have read alot and think they are engineered sort of the same.

the effects or the mastering is applied on the way out of the SIB. it doesn't go with the tracks as far as i can tell.

if i apply an effect, it doesn't stay with the track as it is bounced, or moved. only as it is on the way out.

hope this helps

Wow, getting 2 avenues of ideas about the mastered tracks issue. I know you can master tracks 7-8, but what I am trying to find out is if the mastering stays when moved or even when you playback 7-8 while playing tracks 1-6 also. Somebody must know if this occurs. Maybe have to call Fostex, this is a very important finding to work with IMHO< keep up the responding, Psongman

When you master on the VF80, it makes a new "Program" file with the mastered settings. It's called "Program #__ <--MASTERED."

H'lo, new program file, Dexter? Where is it stored at? I have been over this dilemma a lot the past few days. I think you have to send 7-8 out somewhere then back to tracks 1-6 to accomplish what I am asking. I wish I could work for one of these companies that make these digital 8 tracks. This unit the Fostex VF08 makes great demos, but with just a little bit of routing it would be unbelievable. An excellent example wouldl be to be able to send tracks 1-6 when bounced to 7-8 through EQ, limiiting and compression. There are many more but will let them be discovered. Thanks for the help, buying a CD burner next week, time to make some CD's, yeah! Psongman

Yes, it does. From recollection, the mixdown WITH EFFECTS stays on 7/8 on the original program. The Master you make from 7/8 is turned into a whole new program, with the L/R channels, and all their effects, on 1/2. You could simply start adding more material to that new program, on tracks 3-6, then mixdown again. Keep in mind, mastered tracks 1/2 have to be panned hard Left/Right, or they will become mono in the new mixdown...
