How do I find exactly whats in my PC. Will looking at the chip tell me?

I have a Presario running XP with AMD 1.2ghz with 256 sdram.

I have two empty RAM slots to take it to 768.

I know I need PC100 but Im not sure if anything else will work. (ie: PC133)

What does it mean when a memory stick says it works from ***mhz-1ghz. Does that mean it wont work with a processor faster then 1ghz...?

I also dont want to be buying RAM my proccessor cant take advantage of...

Johny,
The best thing to do would be to put the model number of the computer in Google and find some article that will list exactly what memory came with the computer. Another, more sure way would be to pull the power cord, open up the computer, touch the case, and snap a memory stick loose from both ends. Pull it out and write down the numbers. Put these numbers in Google and you will know for sure what you have. It is not good to mix memory sticks with other sizes and models.

Download Sisoft Sandra and it will tell you anything you want to know about your computer including size and brand of your memory sticks. Also mixing differnt sizes and brands of memory doesn't make a difference unless you are using a motherboard with dual memory controllers.
