When a band comes in with all the pre production and just lay down vocals....

So, they're in here showing me the midi capabilities of my system along with other parts of the mix they tracked at a pro studio...all they want to do is vocals.

I've listened to the mix they had from the original studio...it sounds great! but they want the vocs retracked to sound dirtier...they bring in an AT 4050 and a focusrite voicemaster pro and tell me they want dirt

The 4050 wasn't working on the male vocal (although I thought it was) hey they're supplying pizza and beer...I'm a slave to them :D So I used the SP B1

So here's the end result which they practicaly mixed themselves. I'm just a bit miffed by them wanting to do this when everything sounded good to start with.

Last vocal take was 11:10pm an hour before the pub shut which got mentioned on the vocal track and they insisted in keepin it in there. What gives?

Scratch your head, your ass, or your nutz. Don't matter. They have something in mind, give it to em. If they wind up happy, you did what you were supposed to do. The mix is good, so you should be proud, even if you have a different version in mind. I think you did EXACTLY the right thing. You appeased them, and let them make a decision on the sound. If it was total shit, I guess you could say you don't want any part of it. It sounds really cool. Awesome job man. Right decision to let them have some charge at this point. :)

Interesting, to me it sounds like an excellent recording with the vocals bringing down the quality of the recording some. But everything Dogman says above, as long as the artist is happy you did your job.... so I guess you could be happy you satisified them. Pretty cool song too, I always liked the irish/scottish music I've heard. Also, no offense to the band but after several beers one of the singers in there sounds like a mouse. The track does sound cool though, so good job ;)

Track the vocals on a 1x-speed Portastudio, such as the MFP01, Porta02 or Porta-One,.

or even a 424mkII/III set on "Normal Speed",... then fly the vocals into the mix!

That'll be a $50 consulting fee, please! :eek: ;)
 
Dude, I wouldn't worry, It's been a while, but I don't recall the orginal sounding any better then that.
 
These vocals are indeed dirty, but they sound good in the mix, if that makes sense. And .... Nothing beats a satisfied customer!

You could have just bitched at me in your own thread where I was open and honest and told you what I thought about your mixes without dragging this one up of mine to have a pop at me.

As far as not wanting to remix the song for them....all they were in to do was retrack the vocals, which weren't to my taste.

The reason I posted it in here was to see if I was missing something....which I obviously was, that being the customer is always right and you give them what they want...even if you are just being paid in beer & pizza :)

Now, if I'd played all the instruments, done all the programing and tracking and mixing of the song and posted it up in here people like YOU who obviously don't understand how this place works may be inclined to think I was looking for a pat on the back.

You were given some good advice in your own thread about hanging out here and reading as much as possible and maybe learning something that can help you improve your own recording and mixing technique.

If you cared to delve a little deeper on this board you might have come across THIS THREAD Where I try to give as much information as possible that I think other people might benefit from about a mix I had done. Check out post #10 in that thread and see if you learn anything. If not, there's no harm done.

Lemon, I do apolgize. I edited my remarks, but you caught the unedited rant. I was sore - not that you didn't like my songs - that's okay with me - but at the reaction I received for wandering in here. You gave good advice about checking out a forum first before posting. Advice received. And, again, I am sincerely sorry for the last post. I really do like the song.
 
Lemon, you did what you had to do, and the most important thing is that the customer is happy. I agree, it's not the direction I would've taken either but you did the right thing. Good job.
